4 Tips for Taking Care of Roses
22nd Mar 2023
Did you recently receive a bouquet of roses for a recent celebration? Maybe it was your birthday, an anniversary, or graduation. Or perhaps the roses were for Valentine's Day since, according to our sources, 14% of women receive this flower type on this day dedicated to love. No matter the case, it's essential to understand how to properly care for your rose and blossom it to ensure they thrive for as long as possible. We've highlighted four maintenance tasks below to make this rose-caring process easy and understandable.
1. Trim the Stems Correctly
If you received your roses in a bouquet, your first step should be to trim the stems. To do this task correctly, find sharp shears and carefully cut the bottom of the rose stems at a 45-degree angle. The cut should be about 3 to 5 centimeters long. Do this task every two days since the trims will ensure the flowers have adequate water intake.
2. Clean the Water Daily
Cleaning the water in your flower vase daily is vital to decrease the chance of micro-organism growth, which causes the blooms to wilt. The water should be cold and clear after each change. Additionally, remove any leaves that touch the water since it can result in flower deterioration and additional contamination.
3. Use Flower Food
Using flower food for your rose and blossom arrangement will also decrease the chance of bacteria growth. This results in the flowers lasting longer and remaining in pristine condition. Most bouquets will come with their own packet of flower food. It is more than acceptable to use this as the instructions advise. You can also create your own mixture if you don't have access to flower food. An easy recipe is adding a pinch of sugar and a few drops of bleach. This addition will make all the difference in the success of your flower.
4. Keep the Vase in Indirect Light
After being gifted roses, put them in indirect light. The intense sunshine and heat can make the flowers age faster or scorch. If you're in a situation where you want the flowers to bloom quickly, opt to use warm water in their vases. The warm water will open the bud gently and give you beautiful-looking blooms within hours.
