What to Do With Dry Flowers Part II - Creating Confetti

Posted by Rose & Blossom on 14th Jul 2016

Here at Rose & Blossom, your local flower shop, we know that flowers spell out celebration. We give flowers for anniversaries. We send flowers to celebrate a newborn baby. A bouquet of flowers can say “Happy Birthday!” But what can we do with flowers as they wilt? Well, we can dry those pedals to repurpose them! That’s what we’ve been discussing. In our past blogs, we delved into how to dry your flower petals. And most recently, we started talking about what you can do with dried flower petals. In our last blog, we talked about how you can craft a one-of-a-kind bookmark with your dried flower petals. Today, we’re continuing that theme by talking about another use for your dried flowers: Confetti!

Bouquet to Confetti

About a week after you received a bouquet from your fiance (he gave it to you just because he’s the best), you’ve noted that the petals are starting to wilt. You aren’t shocked, that’s what flowers do. A dozen roses doesn’t last forever. But you’re a bit saddened. You’ve enjoyed the fresh bouquet, the aroma, the colors sitting as a centerpiece on the kitchen table in your home. You want to cherish those flowers just a bit more. You opt to dry out the petals.

You decide to air dry your petals, giving them plenty of time to dry in the open air (you avoid direct sunlight, since it can turn the petals brown and black). You’re ecstatic to have beautiful, colorful petals to turn into confetti. Once the petals are thoroughly dry, you clip them into small triangles. After a few minutes of frenzy with the scissors, you have handfuls of confetti. But when will you release the confetti? What will you be celebrating?

Flower Confetti for Susan’s 40th?

Perhaps you’ll use your flower confetti to celebrate Susan’s 40th birthday. That’s a big milestone, and you know that her husband Stu is planning a big bash. But then you realize that Stu’s planning the shindig at that new lazer tag/bowling/bar downtown. You don’t want to make a mess.

Flower Confetti for New Year's Day?

Perhaps you’ll save the confetti for New Year’s Day? You’ve planned a trip with your fiance to Panama. You plan on ringing in the new year with champagne on the beach, and a bit of natural confetti sounds like the cherry on top. But then you realize, you don’t want to risk bringing organic materials on an international flight. Customs could turn into a downright nightmare. Better use your flower-fetti for another occasion.

The Big Day?

It seems obvious. Why didn’t you think of it first! You can use your freshly prepared dry-flower-petal confetti at your wedding! The big day is only a few weeks off, and what better occasion is there than your own wedding. You decide to scrap the bird seed, and you opt to give all your special day’s attendees a handful of dried flower confetti to see you and your love off!

We hope you make the best of all of your bouquets here at Rose & Blossom, your local flower shop. As always, you can count on us for flower arrangements, and note: We provide flower delivery for folks throughout Spokane, Spokane Valley, Coeur d’Alene, and the surrounding areas!
